Pilgrims with Mary

John Moloney

To write about a Mother who is all-beautiful, who, with her Son, bestows love that is inexhaustible, is to try with faltering pen and from poverty of mind. "We come," St. John Damascene said, "out of the winter of our poverty, bearing flowers to our Queen, weaving a garland of words." Our eyes are not able for the splendour; our minds cannot grasp her holiness; our hearts have not a worthy song.

But to set out in search of her is a worthwhile adventure, and when we come upon her, it is like emerging from a dark valley into a garden of rare flowers bathed in sunshine.

We can be sure that she who pondered the Word will listen to our words. May she be for each of us what she is for all, "the sure hope and comfort for the people of God on their pilgrimage."
