Bernadette is very much a saint for our time.
At one moment, as she knelt before the Immaculate Virgin at the Grotto,
she held a lighted candle in her hand.
It might be said that her whole life was like a candle
- a candle for youth, lighting the way for them;
- a candle for family life as a communion of love;
- a candle for the sick to light up a dark night of
pain;
- a candle for Religious Life through her shining example of joy and fidelity in her vocation.
Monsignor Moloney, who for almost thirty years has been Spiritual Director of the Dublin Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes, has focussed our attention on these areas of life in the context of the story of Lourdes.
As well, he has woven into these short reflections many of Bernadette's words which give us a clue to her way of holiness. Her words are always fresh and can be a starting-point for our prayer.
