. A.D.V.E.N.T.U.R.E. PROGRAM

Crown & Cross

St. Mary’s A.D.V.E.N.T.U.R.E. Program (All Disciples Viewing Every Notion Toward Understanding Religious Experiences) is our alternative to the classroom model for students in grades 7 and 8.  Courses are offered at various times and locations throughout the school year and cover the Archdiocesan Curriculum for Junior High.

ChristMass…It’s Not Just About SANTA!, Part II
Friday, January 15th    7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.    St. Mary's Church
Fee: Free

Tonight we will celebrate the liturgy that some of our students planned at the end of last semester!  The Liturgy is the most important form of prayer – it is what uniquely makes us Catholic!  We will then take a look at our A.D.V.E.N.T.U.R.E.s for the upcoming spring semester so you can register for our next round of courses.

Counts as: Prayer

This session is required of everyone enrolled in the A.D.V.E.N.T.U.R.E. Program!



Game NightJust for Fun Game Night

Fee: Boys: Soda to share
Girls: Snack to share

Bring a board game…we’ll bring some too…but this won’t be your ordinary, peaceful “don’t disturb me” game time!!

CYFM7th & 8th Grade Overnight Retreat - “Making Choices We Can Live With”
Friday, February 13th (4:00 p.m.) - Saturday, February 14th (3:00 p.m.)
Capuchin Youth & Family Ministry Center, Garrison, NY
Fee: $75.00 (registration through CYFMApplication Form)

This overnight retreat will be conducted by the staff at the Capuchin Youth and Family Ministry Center and is open to all students in the Archdiocese of New York.  It covers the Archdiocesan Curriculum unit on on Morality.  At the same time, through organized games and icebreakers, community meals, and active music breaks, retreatants make new friends and enjoy spending time with friends they have met on previous retreats.

Flowers for Algernon“Flowers for Algernon - Book and Movie Club and...Just for Fun...

This is the classic story of a mentally challenged man whose experimental quest for intelligence mirrors that of Algernon, an extraordinary lab mouse.  This award-winning story inspired the American classic movie, Charly.  As a follow-up, Mr. Reitter will join the 2010 Fishkill Polar Plunge on Saturday, February 20th at Sharpe Reservation as a fundraiser for Special Olympics…IFFFFFF…we get enough pledges to coax him into the frigid February waters!!  If you’d like, join us on the 20th and root him on!!!!

What is the media really trying to tell us?  Does it want to be our friend?  Or does it just want to sell us its products?  Join us on this adventure as we investigate articles and pick apart their “true” meanings!

CalvaryThe Seven Last Words of Christ

The Seven Last “Words” of Jesus Christ from the cross are actually seven short phrases that Jesus uttered as he was dying for us.  As we reflect on his last words in preparation for Holy Week, we can't help but ask, why did it have to happen this way?  Wasn't there another way?  Join us as we “sit” at the foot of the cross with Our Lord as his beloved disciples.

Seder“Where's the Lamb?” From Meal to Meal...Seder to Eucharist...What Happened in Between??

Together we will explore the beginnings of our Christian Faith.  We will begin with a Seder and end with the Eucharistic meal followed by supper.  You will be amazed to see the connections between Seder and Eucharist!  We will be busy, busy and this will be fun, fun!!

Lost SheepLeading the Children, Part II
Saturday, April 24th    8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.    St. Mary’s School Hall
Fee: Free

Come lead the children who will celebrate their First Holy Communion this spring!  You will help our staff lead the children through a retreat experience.  They will bake bread, sing songs, make a craft, see a movie, and learn about the special “dishes” used at Mass.

Counts as: Sacramental Life - Part I presented in the fall, required for credit.

Love For LifeSex as God’s Gift

Sexuality – you’ve learned about it in school, now come hear what Jesus has to say!  Mr. Peter Lyons, Religion Teacher at Our Lady of Lourdes High School, will be our presenter.  He will lead us in some pretty lively discussions!

Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi)

Fee: $10.00

The Holy Father has declared June 19, 2009 through June 19th, 2010 the “Year For Priests.” What better way to celebrate our priests than to share the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ with them!  Come join us as we honor Monsignor Bellew and Father Dhas for their lifetime commitment to the church – the Body of Christ!

Rite of Sending Forth - Mass, Celebration and Just for Fun - "Jeopardy!!"
Saturday, June 12th, 3:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.    St. Mary's School Hall & Church
Fee: Free

Come and celebrate with our students who have successfully completed the A.D.V.E.N.T.U.R.E. Program!!  We will also have some fun playing “Jeopardy” as we review all that we have learned this year!!  AND... we’ll close our year by celebrating the 5:30 Mass together.
