Communication with Visitors* Spirit of the Living God, fall afresh on us! February 1 Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ, I would like to share a reflection with you here on Life and Light. The gospel of John tells us in its prologue that in Him, that is, in the Word, was life and that this life is the light of men. Later in the same gospel Jesus Himself declares, "I am the light of the world," and that those who follow Him shall the light of life. We as his followers are partakers of this light. "You are the light of the world he tells us." This declaration of Jesus is to us a source of strength and of joy. It is also a source of confidence, especially as we look forward to the coming year. For as Christians we share in the life of Christ. Since this life is the light, we, then, become bearers of the light. The more fully this life develops within us should mean the more brilliant the light flows from it. May my New Year resolution be simply this: Let me so enhance this life within me that it may become a beacon of hope and of love to everyone about me. Yours sincerely in Christ, Michael Lapierre, S. J. * Fr. Michael Lapierre, S.J., the editor John Cheng and assistant editor Tony Ercolani are currently taking part in this monthly column. While the latter (John and Tony) is writing in January, March, and May, etc., the former is doing so in February, April and June, etc. As usual, we take July and August as our summer holidays. The background hymn is a version of "Immaculate Mary". Thank you. ** By the way, we are happy to announce that Tony Ercolani will be helping the present website as the new assistant editor, effective at the beginning of 2004. Praise God!
